In recognition of the huge British presence in the south of the island, a number of organisations have chosen this area to base their businesses. Certainly worth a mention, but hopefully not a visit whilst on holiday is the British Surgery in Magaluf. With five surgeries in the area at Avenida Notario Alemany (opposite the Hotel Sol Barbados/Antillas), Calle Blanc (opposite the Aparthotel Fiesta Sahara), Calle Hermanos Pinzones (opposite the Hotel Sol Tordos/Mirlos), Cami Sa Porrassa (opposite the Hotel Sol Guadalupe) and Calle Martin Ros Garcia (opposite the Hotel TRH Palmanova), they aim to provide the highest level of medical care for both British tourists and the ex-pat residents in Mallorca. Unlike most, if not all, of the other medical centres on the island the staff here are all British and of the highest calibre. Contact details are:

Of special interest to families travelling to Mallorca with young children this summer is the service being offered by "Baby Talk". Based in Palma Nova, they stock a wide selection of branded British baby supplies imported direct from the UK. They also provide a "buy before you fly" service whereby holiday makers can buy in advance any British baby products they generally use at home and have them delivered to their accommodation on the day of arrival saving the need to carry nappies, milk etc. The shop is also open to anyone on the island and they also offer a delivery service to both residents and holidaymakers on Mallorca. So what is there to do in Magaluf and Calvia? Well the general principle is, if you've got money in your pocket you're never more than a few minutes away from a major tourist attraction.

The nearest weekly market to the town is held in nearby Andratx every Wednesday morning. Special market buses are always laid from the larger south coast resorts throughout the day, although these are always very full by the time they arrive at the market. So, if there are a number of you that can travel together it's often worth considering taking a taxi for the short trip.

The Aqualand Magaluf on the edge of the resort is a giant waterpark with death defying slides, thrilling rides for older kids and some tamer ones for the toddlers. They're open every day May to October from 10am in the morning to 6pm in the evening, but do close during the cooler winter months for general repairs and refurbishment of the park. The House of Katmandu is an enormous, upside-down Tibetan-style mansion which seems to have fallen straight out of the sky. Visitors move through a series of rooms as the House tells the story of its owner, Kilgore Goode. A rugged adventurer on a life-long quest for a legendary red jewel, Kilgore’s strange tale involves an ancient monk, a mysterious sherpa, a magnificent mermaid princess and most illusive of all, the yeti – a legendary, large-footed snow beast of the Himalayas. Starting in the warehouse, visitors will learn the legend of these characters as their self-guided tour takes them through the Galley of Plunders, the Workshop of Wonders, the Library of Illusions, Katmandu Valley, the Genetics Lab, the Chamber of Pain, and finally, the Cave of Shivers. For that extra special night out whilst on holiday, we can certainly recommend the "Come Fly With Me" show at the nearby Gran Casino Theatre in Sol de Mallorca. Combining the music of Frank Sinatra with the visual spectacle of Cirque Du Soleil, "Come Fly With Me" is set to become one of the hottest productions outside of Broadway this year. With an international cast that features some of world’s greatest acrobats and dancers; the show is set to be an absolute spectacle of delight, the likes of which is rarely seen off Broadway itself. Chris Mann takes on the lead role of "Ol Blue Eyes" himself ... an unnerving experience you’d expect but not for Chris, as he’s widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest Sinatra impersonators. Set in 1959 in the city of New York, the show reflects the vibrant energy of a city at its best. The audience just has to close their eyes to be instantly transported back in time to a period when Rat Pack style ruled the world with their ultimate sophistication and undoubted class. The production values of the show are second to none and it has been painstakingly produced with a relentless eye for period detail and heart stopping dance and acrobatic routines. Created by Globo Balear, the same team that run the massively successful Pirates Adventure in Mallorca, "Come Fly With Me" is sure to be an instant hit, bringing all the quality that you’d expect from a top Broadway experience to this show in Mallorca. Although Palma is less than 20 minutes away by taxi from the centre of Magaluf, and is also both the commercial and cultural centre of Majorca, the depth of history, culture and nightlife there often takes visitors by surprise. The easiest way to "see Palma in a day" is by the Number 50 sightseeing bus, which runs on average every 20 minutes throughout the day, and takes in all the major sights of the city. In common with most City Tour buses around Europe, you can hop on and off the bus at any point, and tickets are valid for a 24 hour period. The total journey time for the round trip is 1 hour 20 minutes and costs 13€ for adults and 6.50€ for children under 16. For more information their contact details are:

Golf Fantasia in nearby Palma Nova, is set amid waterfalls, caves and tropical gardens, and is without doubt one of the best mini golf courses in Majorca. There is a choice of three very different 18 hole courses, although you will be allocated a specific course on buying the ticket in an attempt to minimise waiting time during play. This attraction becomes very popular during high season with most of the major tour operators running trips here from all over the island. They are open every day throughout the year from 10am to 2am the following morning. Contact details for more information is:

Just along the coast from Palma Nova at Portals Nous, is one of the most popular family attractions on the island Marineland. Here you will find performing dolphins, sealions, and parrot shows throughout the day. As far as we are aware these are the only captive dolphins on the island, and frequently we are asked "can we swim with them?". Again as far as we are aware, the answer is sadly no. During the show a number of small children are picked at random to be pulled around their pool in a small inflatable dinghy, but outside of the show times the public are not allowed access to these beautiful creatures. Opening hours are:
April to September: from 9am to 7pm
October to March: from 10am to 6pm
A visit to Marineland is often included in all of the major tour operators organised day trips, and it can become very busy during the peak season. For more information their contact details are:
